Pre-payment Meters


If you pay for your energy by pre-payment meters, we may be able to help you by providing a one time top-up credit to help alleviate your situation/crisis.


Please note - this is not an automatic entitlement. You will need to go through an assessment to make sure you qualify.


You can only apply for 3 vouchers in any 12 month period.


How to apply


You will need to collect an application form from our Hartlepool Office. At reception, ask for a "pre-payment application form"


What you NEED to apply


You MUST provide proof of benefit (if applicable) and proof of income.


  • Bank statement
  • Working mobile number
  • Be able to log into your universal credit
  • If not on universal credit, proof of what benefit you are on
  • Proof of crisis
  • Proof of address, such as council tax bill, utility bill, ect.


You can either provide proof at the time of making your application or you can email the proof to energyadvice@hartlepool.cabnet.org.uk 


The energy companies who provide the vouchers demand this information.


What happens next


The energy adviser will then contact you via phone to discuss your application, gather additional information and then process your application. The application process can take between 3 - 5 days, but can be longer during busier periods.


Please note - submitting an application does not automatically mean that you will receive a voucher - an assessment will need to be made.


If we have agreed to submit a voucher request, you will be sent an SMS (test) message with a voucher code. (the type and length of the code will depend on the supplier) - Please note - this will take between 24 - 48 hours to be issued.


On receipt of the voucher code, simply go to any PayPoint or Post Office outlet with your voucher and your pre-payment card/key
